TO LOOT AND TO EMBEZZLE WITH IMPUNITY
It is a generally known truth that governments, agencies and establishments have mottos that they follow. We have the Nigeria Police Force who are TO SERVE AND TO PROTECT WITH INTEGRITY. We have Nigerians who recite the national pledge daily. The curious thing however is that the motto guiding our rulers have changed over the years.
This year alone has revealed so many things to Nigerians. The events have opened the eyes of many Nigerians. People who Nigerians thought would be their saviour have let them down. The people who carried themselves as agents of change have metamorphosed into agents of retrogression. The motto that once ensured good governance and exemplary leadership has been jettisoned and what we now have is the promise TO LOOT AND TO EMBEZZLE WITH IMPUNITY.
Have you ever wondered why corruption is on the increase? Have you ever asked yourself why is it that the more we cry out the more they loot? If you have, then you have taken the first step towards the truth.
Ranging from bombings to scams, our government is nonchalant. With the way Nigeria is being looted in billions and trillions, in the next 5 years, the thieves may start stealing more than trillion and yet go free.
The first problem is ignorance. The government has successfully pushed 70 % of its citizens below poverty level. Tell me, what is the business of an hungry man with governance? So many people ignorantly sell their votes and then cry for 3 years.
Have we ever wondered why an aspirant for the post of ward councilor will spend over 20 million naira on campaign, when his salary for the 4 years may not be up to that? Have you ever wondered why a presidential aspirant will spend billions on campaign? It is the duty of all Nigerians who know better to ensure that they enlighten those who don’t know.
We shouldn’t wait till 2015 before we start our enlightenment. Let us reach out to the villages, our enlightenment shouldn’t end on social media, let us religiously pursue change.
The future is ours. If we allow looters and thieves to continue ruling us, there may be no future for us.
If there’s anytime for the youths to arise, it is NOW. If this sleeping giant must awake, Nigerians must collectively work together. The tribal, religious and political barriers should be thrown down.
God bless Nigeria.
