The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has blamed the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for culpability in the death of his Principal Private Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde. The party said the governor did not provide his aide sufficient protection, thereby exposing him to the assassins.
However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Tony Iyare, was quick to say that: “Investigation into the matter is still on. I would not want to preempt the final outcome of that.”
The State Security Service (SSS) on Wednesday paraded six suspects, who allegedly confessed to killing Oyerinde for the large sums of money he often reportedly kept at home.
The state PDP chairman, Dan Orbih said that investigations by the SSS has put a lie to claims by the state government that PDP killed Oyerinde.
“We have been vindicated. No matter how long a lie persists, the truth shall always prevail. Now, the whole world knows that leadership of the party is innocent of all the false charges by Oshiomhole,” Orbih said.
He said Oshiomhole used Oyerinde’s death to sway public opinion against his party when, according to him, “the governor knew it was a clear case of armed robbery occasioned by the general insecurity in Edo State under his watch as governor.
“He could easily have accommodated Oyerinde in one of the several houses in his lodge rather than leaving him to his own devices.”
Even at that, added the PDP chairman: “It was not too much to give such a dear aide police protection.
“They should bury their heads in shame and publicly apologise for feeding the world with lies. This is just the beginning of a litany of lies peddled by the state government to win elections at all cost. Very soon, the truth shall emerge of the several wicked lies they told about us.”
