Information reached me this morning that an aspirant for the post of OOU SUG Welfare director, Boyo, was attacked by some unscropulous fellows and he’s currently hospitalized in the OOU health centre.
He said his attackers said they had told him to step down from the race but he refused, so they attacked and wounded him leading to hospitalization.
First, it is very important to re-echo it to the entire student populace that elections aren’t do or die. If you really want to serve the students, desperation should not be found in you. There is no point in winning elections if you don’t have the approval of the students. It’s high time everyone opened their eyes and see for themselves that ANY aspirant who can’t conduct himself/herself peacefully during the electioneering process has nothing worthwhile to offer.
Also, the attack on the aspirant should not go unchallenged. The police and other security personnels should ensure that the culprits are apprehended and brought to book.
Considering the past records of the school regarding elections, the security in and out of school should be beefed up. The Electoral committee chairman and other members of the committee should invite the police and other CAPABLE security personnels to be present during the election. The school security men SHOULD NOT BE USED AT ALL. Enough security should be on ground to assure the electorates that they are secure throughout the electioneering process.
Aluta continua! Victoria ascerta!!
