SSS PLANS ARREST OF NANS PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT
Plans are in top gear to arrest the most popular and progressive candidate contesting for NANS presidency, Dayo Shoyoye, by operatives of the SSS and police at the Uyo Township Stadium, Uyo.
The NANS convention had commenced since Thursday 13th December 2012, but as at press time, accreditation of delegates/senators is yet to be done. Genuine students staged a mass protest on saturday and sunday which irked the security forces into spraying tear gas cannisters at the protesting students.
Yesterday afternoon, Dayo Shoyoye (the most popular candidate who has received massive support from the angle of progressive students), was kidnapped at gunpoint by unknown forces suspected to be agents of the state whose aims are to scuttle the conduct of the election. It took a spirited and determined effort on the part of the progressives to secure his release this morning.
Information from the members of LOC/CPC is that plans are in place by the SSS/Police who have hijacked the convention to disqualify and arrest Dayo Shoyoye, so that things can go the way of government-sponsored candidates.
We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to defend the democratic rights of Nigerian students. Labour, human right groups, e.t.c must play a historic role in the return of our nascent democracy, and collectively demand that government hands off the student movement.
God bless Nigerian students!
