OOU TODAY: THE BETRAYERS & THE BETRAYED
”I have learned to hate all traitors, and there is no disease that I spit on more than treachery.” – Aeschylus
”In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” – George Orwell
“I am not a liberator. There are no liberators. The people liberate themselves” – Ernesto Che Guevara
It was with shock that I discovered on entering the school that the school had been heavily militarised. There were 5 trucks full of policemen, armed to the teeth, in front of the university. The first question I asked those in the cab with me was, “Is this a war zone?” But that is the sad reality of what Olabisi Onabanjo University has been reduced to and an eye-opener to the evil that we are made to pass through on a daily basis. The reason for the deployment of policemen is that students had planned to gather and stand for their right to education by staging a peaceful protest, but the anti-students school management in connivance with the traitors called SUG, didn’t want it to happen.
The VC had called for a meeting with all students where he planned to ‘explain’ his anti-students policies. The SUG president however issued out a press release this morning calling the protesters ‘touts and miscreants’. If there was any doubt as to where he stands, the doubts were cleared with the press release; he is a puppet of the school management.
At the meeting, the Vice Chancellor subjected students to hours of repeating the same thing we said we don’t want. He twisted it and brought it out with different grammar, and the naïve students started clapping, only to discover that their condition was unchanged and the VC still stood on his policies.
The very height of betrayal came when they refused to allow comrades to ask questions. That act led to the eventual and abrupt end of the meeting. The meeting ended without any concessions on the part of the management, and a CLEAR realisation that the SUG President, Comeraid Omojola Ayokunle, aka Omojay, is a TRAITOR and a puppet of the school management. As far as students are concerned, he has been thrown into the dustbin of history.
But the students made a grave error! Immediately the meeting scattered, the students too left and started going home without even asking what the way forward was. To be candid, I was enraged! Initially, I decided that that was it as regards any protest or struggle. After all, I’m not owing the school any amount. But I’ve reconsidered that stand now as we cannot neglect our students even when they’ve gone wrong. But our students need to learn to see a cause through.
As regards the way forward, consultations are on. We are looking at appropriate ways to tackle this issue. As soon as we are able to chart a way forward, we’ll communicate it to our students.
i) The OOU SUG President, Comeraid Omojola Ayokunle, aka, Omojay, is a TRAITOR and a PUPPET of the school management.
ii) We demand a removal of the 5 truck-load of policemen that have laid siege on the university; this is not a war zone, and our students are not criminals.
iii) Students must learn to stand up for themselves; their destiny is in their hands.
On a final note, let the words of the great Bob Marley continue to ring in our ears: “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds…”. We must be prepared to pay the price for our freedom. Enough of hand-folding, enough of nonchalance, the time to act is NOW!
Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta!! Amandla Awethu, Nothing shall discourage us.
