I read with much expectation without any iota of disbelieve the press release released by a certain wayward association known as NANS under the leadership of Mr. Ayefele, a press release that served as their response to ASUU chairman, comrade Faggie interview where the comrade said Nigerian Students has given their support to their strike.
As am not in the writing mood, yet I can’t allow such disgusting press release, that emanated from the corrupt hand of the writer and despicable office of the NANS presidency to go without responding in other to prevent Nigerian students from contracting virus from the contaminated press release.
In the press release, to my chagrin, the NANS president has the audacity to require for the investigation to ascertain the studentship of any student or students that asked ASUU to continue the strike until government answer them. It is very sad that Ayefele has failed woefully in remembering the popular adage that says, a man in glass house don’t throw stone. Rather, he choose to forget quickly his educational status.
I believe it is a matter of importance to note here again that Ayefele’s presidency is a product of corruption and illegality that has bedeviled our nation specifically the Students’ Activism as many that are adequately informed about his emergence knew that Ayefele was not qualified to contest for the post and if Ayefele and his cohort see this as blackmail, he should with immediate alacrity come out to the public and tell all Nigerian students his Department, level and Matric number since he claimed he is an undergraduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife. Nigerian students are not surprise with this action of Ayefele, his emergence acceptability by the president tell it all, which is contrary to the election of Abdulmajeed, the elected president of National Youths Council of Nigeria, which led to the sack of the minister of youths as he failed to ensure president Jonathan candidate emerged. No wonder, in 70 days and still counting of the strike, Mr. Ayefele has refused to organize any symposium to enlighten students on the issue and organize nationwide strike unlike the NANS at the ZONE D level that are trying their best on the struggle, putting aside their reservation on ASUU and supporting them, realizing the struggle at hand override any reservation for now.
Furthermore, engaging in fallacious statement using psychological effect to arouse Nigerian students in the press release is laughable. Trying to use their pain to win their side on this issue has no positive effect as it is a complete failure on the part of NANS president. Nigerian students have awaken and their consciousness is above that level, that they will fall cheaply to such childish emotional angle of perception to ridicule ASUU and paint the striking lecturers as the devil in this struggle.
Nigerian students will like to know, why is it that when issue that will or perceived to affect the president popped up, that is when NANS will come out with one ‘bozo’ press release? First, on the Ekiti students protest that they will disturb the activities of private institutions and now on the issue of ASUU interview of students support, prior to these, this anti-progressive elements have been silent, except when they came out to give one week ultimatum that they inherently knew as a selfish purpose, a purpose to attract another abuja ghana-must-go. Ayefele can say he is NANS president, but he is totally disconnected from ordinary Nigerian students and if he is sure, he can walk on the street where Nigerian students are gathered and declare his identity as NANS president if he won’t be pelted.
I don’t need to say, that I am fully in support of this strike and I knew many intellectually groomed Nigerian students with knowledge of our political-economy situation also support. Nigerian students cannot continue in this animalistic atmosphere of learning of no facility , while the political rulers embezzle the national treasure and expend it in giving their children the best education in the world.
To ASUU, Nigerian students will not entertain any strike for a long time again in any short time, so, this strike must continue until they achieve meaningful fulfillment in their demands as their demands for their better welfare and good investment in education is the only way to good educational sector as the lack of any of the two will undermine the process of quality educational sector in Nigeria. I hope ASUU will also realize that one tree don’t make a forest, the need to solicit for NASU, SSANU and others support is imperative to totally closed down the school for effective struggle.
