* According to NEITI – ‘Subsidy payments made through NNPC increased from N198bn in 2009 to N416bn in 2010, and nearly doubled in 2011 to N786bn; Similarly, subsidy payments made through PPPRA over the same period increased from N208bn in 2009, to N278bn in 2010, and jumped astronomically to N1.12tn in 2011’!
* Furthermore still according to NEITI; ‘The estimated loss of 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day in 2013 translates into 63.6 million litres of the product, or 1,927 trailer/tanker load of products per day’!
* ‘Nigeria lost over $11bn to crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism between 2009 and 2011’.
However, in 2012 alone at a loss of 200,000 barrels of crude per day, and in 2013 at a loss of 400,000 barrels per day, the country lost $9bn and &18bn in each year respectively to the menace.
According to breakdown of 2014 Federal Budget proposals; The Ministry of Information will spend N300m on external publicity/media insertions in foreign print and electronic media in selected sites!
Additionally, the same Ministry of Information will also spend N50m on development of social media platforms and networking with other platforms; while also spending a further N201m on production of diaries and calendars’.
The Ministry of Interior on the other hand among other things will spend N3m on purchase of typewriters [in the 21st century – yes typewriters; another N3m on HIV/AIDS; N3m on update and refurbishment of intercoms; and N5m on letter bomb detectors!
Back to the Ministry of Information, Nationwide media tour of FGN projects and Townhall meetings will gulp another N241m only!
